Background

Dr. Schweitzer grew up in Regina, Saskatchewan receiving the Governor General's Medal of Canada for academic achievement.  He received his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry with Great Distinction from the University of Regina, and later went on to receive his Medical Degree from the University of Saskatchewan.  Dr. Schweitzer continued his education at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, where he became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada after completing his ophthalmology residency.  Following this, he went on to work as an Assistant Professor (adjunct) at Queen's University.

 

Dr. Schweitzer is an active researcher with 30 peer-reviewed publications in professional journals.  He has received research awards, served on national ophthalmology committees and presented at professional conferences across the country.  He volunteers his time internationally and on the Canadian National Institute of the Blind mobile eye care van.

 

Kelly and his wife, Dr. Alex Schweitzer, who is an anesthesiologist with RQHR, both enjoy travelling, scuba diving, and skiing.  They enjoy helping care for the patients of Southern Saskatchewan.
